Dr. Michael Sip, D.M.D.
  1. PROPER CARE FOR REMOVABLE DENTURES -  When a patient has removable dentures, it is very important that they remove them each night and clean them thoroughly in order to maintain their optimal oral health. Food particles need to be rinsed off of the dentures and the appropriate specialty cleaner needs to be applied at least once each day. Everyday regular toothpaste is not to be used to clean dentures because the abrasive particles in the toothpaste can damage the base of the dentures.
  2. WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR DENTURE CARE CONSULTATION - During a consultation, the Dental Wellness Center of Florida will discuss where to purchase the appropriate cleaning solution and what kind of cleaner is necessary to use daily. A specific toothbrush is also to be used to properly clean the dentures.
  3. PROPER CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS - Make sure that you keep the dentures above a towel or a soft surface when cleaning them because if you drop the dentures on a hard surface, they can break. It is also very important to keep the dentures wet at all times. If the dentures become too dry, they have the potential to become brittle and break easily. Be sure to ask the dentist if it is okay to leave the dentures in cleaning solution overnight, and if this would affect the length of time that the dentures would last.
  4. WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN GETTING DENTURES -  It is important to understand what to expect when getting dentures, and how to properly take care of them so that they last as long as possible. The Dental Wellness Center of Florida takes pride in giving their patients customized dental care. We are located in Brandon, Florida. Technological advancements have made the denture process easier; however, patients need to still understand a few key factors before getting dentures.
  5. REMOVABLE AND IMPLANT DENTURES - The two main options for dentures are removable and implant dentures. Removable dentures are the most traditional option and they are to be taken out each night when the patient sleeps. The other option patients have to choose from if they are healthy and have no teeth left to lose, are the implant dentures which are permanently attached to the jaw.
  6. ORAL HEALTH EVALUATION - The first step is finding out the state of the patient’s oral health. During the initial exam, the dentist will look for any sign of infection, tooth decay, or any previous dental work that might be a problem for the denture process, as well as searching for any other teeth that might need to be extracted before completing the denture procedure.
  7. AFTER THE INITIAL CONSULTATION - The dentist will have a mold made of the exact measurements of the teeth so that the dentures can be made to fit exactly as they should be. These measurements will be sent to a lab that will completely customize the set of dentures to fit the patient’s specifications.
  8. DENTURE FITTING APPOINTMENT -  When the custom dentures return from the lab, the patient will schedule an appointment to consult with the dentist to make sure that their new set of dentures fits them perfectly. During this visit, the dentist makes the minor adjustments necessary to eliminate any pain or discomfort the patient feels as a result of the new dentures being placed on their gums.
  9. ADJUSTMENT PERIOD AFTER DENTURES ARE FITTED - An adjustment period should be expected after the dentures have been fitted. Eating and speaking with the new dentures does take some time to get used to; however, the patient will regain their confidence regarding the function and control they once had with their regular teeth. The dentures will feel normal in a very short period of time.
